I have recently started to explore ways in which I can viably merge the hitherto separate preoccupations of sculptor and model-maker. The beginnings of the series Architectures may indicate a way forward in this. For the following examples of small, wall-mounted constructions my intention was to concentrate on simple forms which could conceivably be appreciated as ‘abstract’ objects and scaled representations at the same time. Thus elements purposefully suggest such ‘real’ and functional structures as steps, benches or walkways while other elements are obviously non-functional and purely formal.
